The Australasian Aikikai was formed in 2005 when 2 independent Dojo’s joined together out of a shared training philosophy.
In 2006 a third Dojo Newcastle Aikikai joined the group.
The Australasian Aikikai is under the guidance of the United Kingdom Aikikai and all grades are recognised by Aikikai Hombu Dojo Japan.
The Technical Director of the Australasian Aikikai is Gordon Jones 6th Dan Shihan who is also the Principal of the United Kingdom Aikikai and was awarded his promotion to Shihan at the 2007 Kagami Biraki.
The Chief Instructor & President of the Australasian Aikikai is Colin Hackett 5th Dan Shidoin who as 38 years of Aikido training.
The Australasian Aikikai is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian organisation and welcomes like minded people of goodwill to train together in the true spirit of harmony.
The Australasian Aikikai offers classes in Aikido and related weapons work, boken and jo, Iai-do, and Zazen Meditation through its three dojo’s based in Newcastle, the Central Coast and Castle Hill.
The Australasian Aikikai offers the opportunity for personal development through controlled disciplined training in a safe and friendly environment and welcomes beginners and experienced students alike, from all styles and denominations.
The Australasian Aikikai aspires to teach the traditional techniques and philosophy of Morihei Ueshiba O’Sensei.
