Seminar and Intensive With Chris Mooney Shihan

Aikido Adelaide and the Australasian Aikikai are very excited to invite you to an Aikido intensive and weekend seminar with Chris Mooney Shihan of Ei Mei Kan Aikido Dojo, Birmingham UK.

The intensive will be conducted at Aikdo Adelaide dojo from Wednesday 5th till Friday 7th Feburary 2025. Places are strictly limited and subject to approval with Sensei Matt or Sensei Miltos at unlockingpotential1@gmail.com. We will refund any payments for the intensive that we cannot fulfil.

Evening classes will be held Weds through Friday night as usual at Aikdo Adelaide  and are open to all. An Australasian Aikikai grading will be held during evening class on Friday 7th Feburary 2025.

The weekend Seminar will be held on Sat 8 & Sun 9th Feburary 2025 in the beautiful Adelaide Hills in the village of Ashton at Kangaroo Judo Club. Please note that if there is a high risk of fire that weekend we will have revert back to Aikdo Adelaide dojo for the safety of ourselves and emergency services in the area.

About Mooney Shihan

Chris Mooney Shihan (7th Dan) is Sensei Teale's original instructor and one of the first generation of teachers that were awarded Shihan status by Chiba Sensei. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He had a close relationship with Chiba Sensei being one of his main uke's when he first came back to the UK to teach and continuing to travel with him extensively around the world. He travels extensively, regularly teaching all over Europe, Israel and Kazakhstan amongst other countries.

His dojo was one of the only permanent Aikido dojo's in the UK and he established regular "Intensives" where people from around the world would come to his dojo every year.

About the Intensive - Wed 5th till Friday 7th Feburary 2025

The Intensive, is a 3 day period of training similar to a zen sesshin. Everyone sleeps on the tatami, gets up, meditates, prepares and eats food and spends the day working on Aikido principles and weapons techniques. Over the years, Sensei has developed a pace which is energising rather than exhausting and is interspersed with other supporting practices such as Qi Kong and Masunaga stretching.

Because of the nature of the Intensive, the numbers are very limited. Applications will be prioritised from 3rd kyu up to beginner with but will be open to lower grades if places are available. Please note that payment is required when making a reservation, this payment will be refunded in the event that your reservation cannot be fulfilled. 

Accomodation and Transport

Ashton necessitates a car ride wherever you stay. It is 11 minutes by car from the outskirts of the Adelaide suburbs (Magill). We recommend staying in the Adelaide CBD, a 24 minute drive. Aikido Adelaide will arrange members to pick people up or get an uber to the location.

• Wed-Friday evening classes will be open to anyone since they are normal class times for Aikdo Adelaide dojo.
• The Friday evening training session will include a grading at Aikdo Adelaide dojo.
• The weekend seminar is open to all. A rough timetable has been developed, but will be refined at a later date.
